Penang allocates RM80,000 to SJKT Ramakrishna for upgrades

Penang government grants RM80,000 to SJKT Ramakrishna for new classrooms and a better learning environment, supporting 339 students.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has allocated RM80,000 to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ramakrishna to enhance teaching quality and the school environment.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the funding is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational facilities for all 339 students. He announced that RM50,000 was approved in December for constructing two additional classrooms.

“In conjunction with the Ponggal celebration, I am pleased to announce an additional allocation of RM30,000,” Chow said. He expressed hope that the contribution would provide a better learning environment for students and teachers.

He spoke at a cheque presentation and Ponggal celebration at the school, attended by Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer and headmistress A. Vasagi Devi. Chow reiterated the state’s commitment to a holistic and inclusive education agenda.

He added that recent federal allocations for vernacular schools reflect the government’s concern for multi-stream education. Chow also highlighted the significance of festivals like Ponggal in strengthening inter-racial understanding and respect.

Project manager K. Kumarathiraviam said the application for the new facilities was submitted two years ago. Construction began on Sept 6 last year and is now over 70% complete, with expected completion within two months.
