First look at Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series revealed
PRIME Video has released the first images from Carrie, its upcoming eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s 1974 novel.
The horror series stars Summer Howell as Carrie White, a socially isolated teenager raised by her controlling mother Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.
Following the death of her father, Carrie enters public high school and becomes the target of a viral bullying scandal. As she struggles with the cruelty of her classmates and the pressures of social media, she begins developing telekinetic powers.
The series is written and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, whose previous work includes Midnight Mass (2021) and The Haunting of Hill House (2018). He also directs four episodes.
The supporting cast includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard.
Agudong plays Sue Snell, Thornton appears as Chris Hargensen, Oulette plays Tommy Ross and Midthunder takes on the role of Miss Desjardin. Lillard plays Principal Grayle.
The production marks the first television series adaptation of King’s debut novel, which follows Carrie’s experiences with abuse, religious extremism, bullying and adolescence before culminating in a disastrous high school prom.
Stephen King serves as an executive producer on the Amazon MGM Studios production.
King’s novel was previously adapted into Brian De Palma’s 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. The film received Academy Award nominations for both actresses and marks its 50th anniversary this year.
Other screen adaptations include a 2002 television film and a 2013 feature starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
Carrie is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video later this year.
