German politician urges US troop withdrawal after Trump tariff threat

A German foreign policy expert calls for the removal of US troops and nuclear weapons from Germany following Trump’s tariff announcement over Greenland.

MOSCOW: A German politician has called for the withdrawal of United States troops and nuclear weapons from Germany. The demand follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs linked to the purchase of Greenland.

Sevim Dagdelen (pic), a foreign policy expert for Germany’s Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance, made the statement on Sunday. “US troops should finally be withdrawn from Germany,” Dagdelen said on X.

She also called for the removal of American nuclear bombs from the Buchel air base. Dagdelen further urged a halt to the planned deployment of US medium-range missiles on German territory.

Trump said on Saturday he would impose a 10% tariff on several European nations, including Germany. The tariff would later rise to 25% and remain until the US signs a deal to purchase Greenland.

Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Danish Kingdom. Danish and Greenlandic authorities have warned Washington against any attempt to seize the island.

They have stated they expect their territorial integrity to be respected. Trump has repeatedly stated his belief that Greenland should become part of the United States.
