Residents in Lamag state constituency welcome BN’s seven-point manifesto, hoping for implementation to address water, electricity, housing and youth issues.
KINABATANGAN: Residents in the Lamag state constituency have expressed hope that the manifesto offered by Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Ismail Ayob (pic) would be implemented as promised.
They welcomed the seven offers as important instruments for driving local well-being and socio-economic transformation.
Government retiree Atija Kabirun, 65, said the manifesto reflected the urgent needs of rural residents yearning for an improved quality of life.
“If he is elected and fulfils the promises, as residents here, we would indeed feel honoured,” she told Bernama.
She said the main focus should be resolving disruptions to clean water and electricity supply.
Atija added that the construction of People’s Housing Programme houses would be very helpful for the B40 group without homes.
Primary school teacher Mohd Hasif Izzuddin Mohd Rasid, 39, said the manifesto aligned with aspirations for Kinabatangan to develop on par with other areas.
He said the offer to build a sports complex was a good move given the absence of proper training infrastructure.
“Sports facilities are indeed very much needed and are often discussed, especially for schoolchildren,” he said.
Mohd Hasif Izzuddin also praised the proposal to establish a college or skills institution in Kinabatangan to address high living costs for students.
Eatery worker Luqman Hakim Khamsah, 19, said such an institution would provide youth with technical training opportunities.
He believes this would in turn reduce the unemployment rate among young people.
Mohd Ismail launched the ‘Lamag Wajah Baharu’ manifesto yesterday.
The seven offers included PPR development and improvements to roads, electricity, water, and Internet access.
It also involves creating tourism and entrepreneurship sectors and establishing a Kinabatangan college or skills institute.
Enhancing sports facilities and upgrading basic infrastructure in Lamag are also promised.
The manifesto emphasises establishing a new town, Bandar Seri Milian, as a development catalyst.
It includes a special incentive of RM1,000 for youths pursuing higher education or those who have just married.
The Lamag by-election sees a one-on-one contest between Mohd Ismail and Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election is also being held concurrently.
Both by-elections follow the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year.
Polling day is set for Jan 24, with early voting on Jan 20.
