Selangor state and Batu Caves temple management agree to proceed with escalator project, pending resolution of technical and regulatory requirements.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor State Government and the Batu Caves temple management have reached an understanding to proceed with a proposed escalator project.
Its implementation remains subject to resolving all necessary technical requirements and regulations.
DAP Chairman Gobind Singh Deo said both parties agreed all relevant regulations must be strictly adhered to before construction begins.
He clarified that the temple’s unique status, governed by an old court order establishing a trust body, led to a different application process.
The dispute stemmed from claims the application was submitted under an individual’s name.
Gobind confirmed checks showed it was submitted by the temple through Tan Sri R. Nadarajah in his capacity as a trustee and temple chairman.
Previously, state executive councillor V. Papparaidu said the state rejected a licence for the project as the application was under an individual’s name without an association registration.
This was said to contradict the National Land Code, which requires approvals for registered societies.
On a separate matter, Gobind said DBKL has scheduled a meeting regarding a relocation order for the Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple in Jalan Masjid India.
He stated he would facilitate the process to assist the temple authorities.
