PM Anwar urges integrity, resilience and loyalty in defence force despite corruption cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that corruption-related cases should not be seen as representative of the entire defense force or enforcement agencies.

Speaking at the National Defence Industry Policy launch ceremony today, he emphasised that the integrity, loyalty and resilience of personnel must not be undermined.

“It is important to acknowledge recent developments that have shocked not only the country but the world. Malaysia is still grappling with corruption-related issues, including land leasing cases.

“However, we must not allow issues involving a small number of individuals, (although) still under investigation to tarnish the image and reputation of our military officers at all levels who have served with dedication.”

Anwar urged defense personnel to remain steadfast in their duties to ensure continued economic progress, alongside the peace and security enjoyed by the country.

“The government understood its (Mindef) responsibilities and the trust placed upon it, and that the nation too depended on the service and preparedness of defence personnel.

“Hopefully, the dark episodes and ‘tornadoes’, which are rare in Malaysia but may occur once every two or three years, will not happen often and will not give a negative impression,” he said.
