BN candidate unveils 10-point manifesto for Kinabatangan

Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Kinabatangan by-election pledges a development council, financial transparency, and youth hubs in a 10-point manifesto.

KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar has launched a 10-point manifesto for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election.

He pledged to establish the Kinabatangan Strategic Development Council (MPSK) to oversee constituency development plans.

Opposition representatives will be appointed to the council to ensure checks and balances.

The manifesto, uploaded to his official Facebook page, includes a promise to table financial reports every six months.

He also vowed to establish a collection centre for marine and river produce to boost fishermen’s income.

Other pledges include providing public transport services and creating the Kinabatangan Foundation (Yakin) for education, welfare, and emergency aid.

The plan also features the creation of a tourism and cultural hub.

Polling District Centres (PDM) will be transformed into ‘Laman Stay Belia’ youth hubs under his proposals.

The manifesto also introduces Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

Further initiatives include implementing free e-tuition and providing periodic free health screenings for constituents.

“Today, I do not come with sweet promises. I come with a work plan that can be audited, monitored, and questioned by the people,” he said.

“I want Kinabatangan to move forward through work, not rhetoric.”

The Kinabatangan by-election is a three-cornered contest between Mohd Kurniawan Naim, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Warisan, and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.

A simultaneous by-election for the Lamag state seat will see a straight fight between BN’s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek.

The twin by-elections were triggered by the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year.

The Election Commission has set polling day for both seats for this Saturday.
