Perak state government aims to increase natural food for tigers to prevent them from approaching forest fringes and human settlements.

IPOH: The Perak state government is planning to boost natural food sources for tigers to prevent the protected species from approaching forest fringe areas or human settlements.

State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said the effort is vital to tackle human-wildlife conflicts reported in several districts, especially Kinta.

“Efforts to have more food sources for tigers are being jointly planned by several parties, including the Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan),” he said.

He added that the goal is to ensure the tigers’ food chain is undisturbed so they do not need to venture near human areas to hunt.

Teh stated that the increased tiger presence in certain areas reflects the effectiveness of past conservation efforts.

He noted this success requires constant monitoring to balance habitat management with public safety.

The chairman made these remarks while attending an event at Aeon Big Falim in Ipoh. – Bernama
