Dewan Rakyat to discuss disaster warnings and Syariah prosecution today

Parliament’s focus today includes disaster warning system effectiveness, the National Syariah Prosecution Efficiency Plan, and a Political Financing Act update

KUALA LUMPUR: The effectiveness of Malaysia’s disaster early warning system will be scrutinised in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) will question the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister on the system’s performance, particularly in rural areas.

The oral question-and-answer session will also address the status of the National Syariah Prosecution Efficiency Plan (PKPSN).

Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) will ask the Prime Minister if PKPSN will be made official national policy.

He will also inquire about establishing a Federal Syariah Prosecution Department Act to ensure prosecutorial independence.

Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) will seek an update on the government’s proposal to enact a Political Financing Act for transparency.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman) will question the Higher Education Minister on graduate employment.

He will ask for the percentage of graduates in semi-skilled or unrelated jobs from 2021 to 2025.

The minister will also be asked to outline strategic efforts to reduce this percentage annually.

Following the question session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address.

The debate began after the opening of Parliament by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

The current parliamentary sitting is scheduled to last for 20 days until March 3.
