P-hailing rider denies rape, robbery and impersonation charges

A p-hailing rider in Klang pleads not guilty to three serious charges, including rape and impersonating a police officer, with bail set at RM10,000.

KLANG: A p-hailing delivery rider pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to three charges, including rape.

R. Sathiyaseelan, 32, is accused of raping a 37-year-old woman at a parking area on Jalan Tapah in the early hours of Jan 18.

He was charged under Section 376(2)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between 10 and 30 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Suhaili Abu Bakar proposed bail of RM50,000 with one surety and additional conditions.

Lawyer Nathiya Kamalanathan requested lower bail, citing the accused’s role as sole breadwinner and his modest income.

Judge Syarifah Hascindie Syed Omar set bail at RM10,000 with all additional conditions imposed.

Sathiyaseelan and a friend, M. Balaraj, 34, also pleaded not guilty to jointly robbing the same victim at the same location and time.

They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years’ jail and whipping.

The prosecution sought bail of RM20,000 for each accused, but the judge set it at RM7,000 each with conditions.

In separate proceedings at the Magistrate’s Court, both men pleaded not guilty to impersonating police officers.

The charge under Section 170 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Syuhada Rosli applied for RM8,000 bail each, but Magistrate A. Karthiyayini set it at RM3,000.

The case in the Magistrate’s Court has been set for mention on March 5, 2026.
