A Port Dickson Municipal Council officer denies six bribery charges involving over RM47,000 in contracts awarded to a relative’s company
SEREMBAN: A Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) assistant administrative officer pleaded not guilty to six counts of bribery totalling more than RM47,000.
Hamiza Hasnin, 53, entered her plea at the Sessions Court here after the charges were read out before Judge N. Kanageswari.
The charges allege she abused her position to secure bribes through service contracts for council programmes between June 2022 and March 2024.
The bribes, ranging from RM1,020 to RM16,100, were allegedly linked to contracts awarded to a company owned by her son-in-law.
She is accused of recommending her relative’s company as a supplier to MPPD’s Procurement, Asset Management and Store Division.
One charge states she received RM8,141 for herself by proposing the same company for an RM8,570 programme.
All offences were allegedly committed at MPPD under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
The prosecution proposed bail of RM30,000 with one surety and additional reporting conditions.
Her lawyer requested lower bail, stating his client earns only RM4,000 monthly with no other financial resources.
The court set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and approved the prosecution’s additional conditions.
The case has been fixed for mention on March 13.
