Ukraine’s President Zelensky says his negotiators are prepared for meetings with the US next week to discuss proposals for ending the war with Russia.
KYIV: President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is ready for meetings with the United States next week to discuss proposals for ending the war with Russia.
His remarks in an evening address suggested a second round of talks scheduled for Sunday in Abu Dhabi had been postponed.
“Ukraine is ready to work in all working formats,” said Zelensky.
“It is important that there are results and that the meetings take place. We are counting on meetings next week and are preparing for them.”
The comments came as US envoy Steve Witkoff said he had “productive and constructive” talks with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev on Saturday.
Teams from Ukraine and Russia held their first in-person negotiations last week in Abu Dhabi on a plan being pushed by US President Donald Trump.
They had agreed to resume talks there on Sunday, but Zelensky on Thursday suggested the date and venue could change given tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The US says both sides are close to a deal, but Kyiv says they have so far been unable to find a compromise on the key issue of territory in a post-war settlement.
