Police detain a man for carrying a knife and an elderly man for flying a drone without a permit during the Thaipusam festival in Ipoh.
IPOH: Perak police arrested two men for separate offences during the Thaipusam festival near the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh.
A 34-year-old man was detained yesterday for possessing a vegetable knife, which he claimed was for self-protection.
Perak Police deputy chief DCP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the suspect’s past records involving violent and drug-related offences made his possession of the knife unreasonable.
The suspect has been remanded for three days to assist investigations under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
In a separate incident today, the Police Air Wing’s Drone Unit detained an 80-year-old man for flying a drone without a permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
Mohammad Azlin said the elderly man was released on police bail, but the drone was seized for further investigation.
He added that a total of 763 police officers and personnel were deployed statewide for the Thaipusam festival.
