Police extradite another Captain Praba gang member from Thailand

Police extradite a Captain Praba gang member from Thailand, bringing total arrests to 17 as the hunt continues for 15 more suspects still at large.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have extradited another suspected member of the organised ‘Captain Praba’ crime gang from Thailand.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the man in his 30s arrived in Malaysia last night following close cooperation with Thai authorities.

The suspect will be brought to court today for a remand order to facilitate further investigation.

“So far, the police are actively hunting for the remaining 15 members of this group who are believed to be still at large,” Mohd Khalid told reporters after a community policing programme in Batu Caves.

The latest arrest brings the total number of gang members apprehended to 17.

This follows the earlier extradition of three other suspected members from Mumbai, India.

Mohd Khalid noted that tracking suspects who flee abroad presents challenges, as they often act quickly to evade capture.

“However, through international cooperation and exchange of intelligence information with the countries involved, the authorities of the countries concerned will contact us for follow-up action as soon as a suspect is detected,” he said.

The ‘Captain Praba’ gang is linked to various violent crimes and armed robberies.

It came into the spotlight after involvement in several high-profile robberies, often involving firearms and aggression towards victims and security forces.

Police previously launched a special operation to cripple the group’s network following a rise in linked crimes, including an attempt to kill a police officer during a raid.
