Works Ministry may grant a six-month extension to the WISE highway concessionaire after its principal approval period ends in September 2026.
GERIK: The Ministry of Works will consider granting a six-month extension to the concessionaire for the West Ipoh Span Expressway construction project.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the extension would follow the project’s principal approval period ending in September 2026.
He stated that initial conditional approval was given to allow the company to secure its financial standing.
“The concessionaire involved needs to negotiate after we give conditional approval,” Nanta said at a press conference.
“It needs to ensure that financial institutions can help, support the company to get capital to complete the work.”
He was commenting on the progress of the WISE highway construction during a visit to JRTB (FT004).
On May 1, Nanta had informed that the ministry submitted an approval letter to the developer.
The developer must complete necessary work within the specified period.
The 60-kilometre WISE Highway will feature three two-way lanes.
Its route will start in Gopeng and pass through Batu Gajah, Siputeh, Manong, Tronoh, Beko, Seri Iskandar and Kuala Kangsar.
The construction will provide an alternative route for users besides the Menora Tunnel.
