Police track syndicate impersonating Johor police in scam

Johor police and MCMC are investigating a syndicate using a Sabah number to scam companies by impersonating the state police headquarters.

JOHOR BAHRU: Police are tracking a syndicate that scammed food and souvenir companies by impersonating the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters.

The syndicate used a phone number registered to an address in Sandakan, Sabah.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad (pic) said investigations are ongoing with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“No arrests have been made so far,” he told a media conference.

A food supply company and a catering company lost a total of RM8,800 in the scam.

The victims lodged a police report on Jan 26 after realising they had been deceived.

They discovered the scam upon learning no orders had been placed after making deliveries to the police headquarters.
