MARA vows zero tolerance for integrity breaches among staff

MARA chairman says agency will not hide any integrity or misconduct issues involving its personnel, with cases reported to police and MACC

KOTA TINGGI: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) will not compromise or cover up any integrity and misconduct issues involving its personnel.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the agency will ensure appropriate action is taken by the authorities against individuals found to have committed offences, including criminal breach of trust.

He said matters involving integrity, discipline, and compliance with high governance standards are always emphasised by MARA.

“We will not compromise, which is why we have never covered up or swept such issues under the carpet,” he told a press conference after launching the Logistics Learning Provider (LLP) at Kolej Profesional MARA Bandar Penawar.

“If it involves criminal breach of trust concerning money and so on, we ourselves will report it to the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and let the court decide,” he added.

Asyraf Wajdi was commenting on MARA’s efforts to combat any integrity issues involving its staff.

He reminded all MARA personnel to practise the 3iP work culture: integrity, compassion, and innovation.

However, he said this culture must go hand-in-hand with a high level of professionalism among staff, including adherence to established governance.

“Of course, we as humans are not perfect, but that is not an excuse for us to condone or legitimise any misconduct that occurs,” he said.

On 19 January, a former MARA assistant officer was charged with criminal breach of trust over money deposited into her account for the purpose of MARA loan repayments under several financing schemes, before misusing the money for personal use.

The 40-year-old woman pleaded not guilty at the Muar Sessions Court to 25 charges of criminal breach of trust, involving a total of RM15,839.66 belonging to four individuals related to the loan repayments.
