Malaysia assures safety for visiting dignitaries amid Modi visit

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says firm measures are in place to protect foreign dignitaries and ensure public safety during official visits.

PUTRAJAYA: The government has consistently taken firm measures to ensure the safety of foreign dignitaries during their visits to Malaysia.

MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed during a Cabinet meeting that no party would be allowed to cause disruptions while the country hosts foreign guests.

“Firm measures will be taken to ensure and guarantee that public safety and the security of visiting dignitaries are always safeguarded,” Fahmi told a post-Cabinet media conference.

The statement comes ahead of a two-day official visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to Wisma Putra, Modi will receive an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar at the Seri Perdana Complex.

Both leaders are expected to discuss various bilateral issues and explore cooperation opportunities in trade, investment, defence, security, labour, tourism, and education.

They will also witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding in areas including anti-corruption, seafarer training, disaster management, and audiovisual production.

Additional agreements will be signed covering the labour sector, semiconductors, health, national security, and technical education.

An exchange of letters on United Nations peacekeeping cooperation and the handover of the International Big Cats Alliance Framework Agreement will also take place.

India is Malaysia’s largest trading partner in South Asia.

Total trade between Malaysia and India reached RM79.49 billion in 2025.

Malaysia’s exports amounted to RM52.30 billion while imports from India totalled RM27.19 billion.

Major exports include palm oil and palm-based agricultural products, as well as electrical and electronic products.

Imports from India comprise agricultural products, petroleum products and chemical products.
