A 35-year-old driver is remanded for four days following a crash that killed a motorcyclist and injured four others in Melaka.
MELAKA: A 35-year-old driver has been remanded for four days in connection with a fatal six-vehicle collision.
The man is suspected of dozing off while driving a Perodua Myvi, causing it to cross into the opposite lane.
The incident occurred at the Padang Jambu traffic light junction at 2 pm yesterday.
His vehicle collided with two cars and three motorcycles that were stopped at the traffic light.
Motorcyclist Mohd Shahrol Anuar Md Roby, 44, was killed at the scene from severe injuries.
Four other individuals sustained injuries in the crash.
Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani issued the remand order to facilitate police investigations.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit confirmed the motorcyclist’s death.
“The driver is believed to have dozed off while travelling from Melaka town towards Bukit Beruang,” he said.
