Selangor JPJ enforces speed limiter rules in CNY road safety op

Selangor JPJ targets commercial vehicle speed limiter compliance and seatbelt use in a special Chinese New Year safety operation until Feb 22.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Road Transport Department is prioritising speed limiter compliance for commercial vehicles in a special Chinese New Year safety operation.

Director Azrin Borhan said the operation, running until Feb 22, ensures vehicles adhere to speed limits amid higher festive traffic.

“JPJ also reminds bus operators and drivers to ensure passengers wear seatbelts at all times,” he said.

He added that offenders can be fined RM300 for not wearing a seatbelt.

Azrin also reminded bus operators to provide a second driver for journeys exceeding 300 km.

He spoke during the operation’s launch at the Section 17 Bus Terminal.

The director noted a related road ban for goods vehicles is also in effect on key travel dates.

This ban aims to ease traffic flow during the festive exodus.

Earlier, Azrin joined officers to inspect buses and distribute safety leaflets.

He revealed express and tour buses recorded the most technical offences in Selangor last year.

Officials inspected 13,484 buses in 2025, issuing 277 corrective actions.

A total of 367 offences were recorded from those inspections.

The most common issues were technical violations, missing PSV licences, and drivers without the correct licence.

Undercover checks on 1,700 passengers during the festive season resulted in 30 fines.

These fines were issued for seatbelt non-compliance.
