Woman evades JPJ roadblock by riding motorcycle against traffic

A woman rode against traffic to avoid a JPJ roadblock in Kuala Lumpur, leading to her arrest and the seizure of her motorcycle with a fake number plate.

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman attempted to evade a road transport department inspection by riding her motorcycle against the flow of traffic.

The 26-year-old was successfully detained during Op Falcon, a Kuala Lumpur JPJ operation conducted on Saturday night.

Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam (pic) said the woman turned back in a desperate attempt to avoid the roadblock.

Further inspection revealed the motorcycle was using a misleading registration number that did not comply with specifications.

The motorcycle has been seized for further action, Hamidi said in a statement.

A total of 346 notices were issued for various offences during the operation.

The operation ran from 10 pm on Feb 14 until 5 am on Feb 15 at several locations around the capital.

From that number, six cars and two motorcycles were seized for serious offences.

These included extreme modifications and other technical violations, according to Hamidi.

Among the main offences detected were not possessing a valid driving licence and expired road tax.

Other common offences were no insurance coverage and engine modifications without endorsement.

The operation was carried out following public complaints over noise disturbances and extreme vehicle modifications.

Hamidi stressed these actions cause discomfort to the community.

He added that enforcement will be intensified from time to time to ensure compliance with the law.

The goal is to ensure the safety of all road users, he said.
