Heavy rain triggers flash floods in Ipoh’s Manjoi area, forcing 26 people into a temporary relief centre as clean-up operations begin.
IPOH: A temporary relief centre has been opened in Ipoh following flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall yesterday.
The centre at Dewan Kampung Tengku Hussein in Manjoi is currently housing 26 victims from 10 families.
Kinta District Disaster Management Committee chairman Zulhisham Ahmad Shukori said the centre was opened at 5 pm today.
“I was informed that 26 victims from 10 families were unable to return to their homes after yesterday’s flood as cleaning works could not be carried out today,” he said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the Kinta District Civil Defence Force (APM) Operations Control Centre confirmed the floods affected Kampung Manjoi and Kampung Tengku Hussein.
The incident was caused by continuous heavy rainfall exceeding 80 millimetres over two and a half hours.
Floodwaters in the affected areas have now receded, according to the APM.
House-cleaning operations are currently underway with the assistance of local villagers.
