Flood situation in Perak worsens with over 2,000 evacuated to centres

The flood situation in Perak has worsened significantly, forcing 2,171 people from 759 families to evacuate to 22 temporary relief centres

IPOH: The flood situation in Perak has worsened significantly, forcing 2,171 people from 759 families to evacuate to 22 temporary relief centres as of 8 am today.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat confirmed that 19 centres are now operating in Larut Matang Selama district, sheltering 1,784 displaced residents.

Three additional relief centres in Manjung district are currently providing shelter for 387 affected individuals.

The Larut Matang Selama centres include Dewan Perdana Trong, Dewan Orang Ramai Sungai Baru Trong, Masjid Al-Wusta Batu 8, Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Hampar.

Manjung’s relief operations are concentrated at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu, Sekolah Kebangsaan Beruas, and Sekolah Agama Raktar Padang Serai.

Heavy rainfall since yesterday morning caused rapid water level rises across multiple areas within these two districts.

Rescue operations and assistance are being coordinated by the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, police, and Social Welfare Department.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a weather warning this morning predicting further rain and thunderstorms.

These adverse weather conditions are expected to affect Larut Matang Selama, Kerian, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak districts.

Three major rivers have reached dangerous levels, specifically Kolam Bukit Merah, Sungai Kampar, and Sungai Slim.

Emergency services remain on high alert as weather conditions continue to threaten additional flooding throughout the region. – Bernama
