KUCHING: A new book documenting former Selangor Police Chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah’s experiences in combating gangsterism has been described as a comprehensive and invaluable work.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the book offers more than just accounts of police successes against criminal gangs.

He highlighted that the publication also explores the vital roles of families, educators and the wider community in fostering awareness among youth to steer clear of crime.

“This book is comprehensive and well-written, reflecting Datuk Tun Hisan’s deep experience in tackling the issue of gangsterism,” he told reporters after the book launch at the Sarawak State Library.

Ayob Khan added that the book serves as a valuable guide for young police officers seeking leadership lessons from Tun Hisan’s exemplary service.

He emphasised that Tun Hisan’s leadership qualities, firmness, integrity, vision and courage to challenge norms should be emulated by all police personnel.

“If we can nurture police officers who are strong in integrity and governance, I am confident PDRM will remain on the right track in fulfilling the trust placed in us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tun Hisan stated that the book was not intended to highlight individual achievements but rather to document a collective struggle to restore peace and public confidence.

“Breaking the Chains of Gangsterism represents far more than enforcement operations,” said the former police chief who also served as special advisor for the guidebook.

He explained that the publication embodies a collective struggle involving police, government agencies, community leaders and ordinary citizens who refused to surrender their streets to fear.

“The victories achieved were never the result of one man or one operation alone,” Tun Hisan emphasised.

He stressed that crime prevention requires a holistic approach that combines enforcement, education and empathy towards the community.

The book was unveiled by the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Book Development Foundation Tan Sri Dr Abdul Latiff Abu Bakar.

Authored by Leonard Sabu, the publication represents a collective effort between Ya Ying Charity Organisation and the National Book Foundation.

The project received full support from PDRM, Yayasan Generasi Malaysia, Yayasan Pengawasan Jenayah Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. – Bernama
