Three suspects arrested as police seize MDMA, ecstasy, and other drugs worth RM1.49 million from a Tampoi processing site.
JOHOR BAHRU: Police have dismantled a drug syndicate and seized narcotics worth RM1.49 million in a raid on a Tampoi residence.
The operation on October 22 led to the arrest of three suspects aged between 27 and 42 years old.
Johor Bahru Utara police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said intelligence from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department facilitated the bust.
Authorities confiscated 8,162 grams of suspected MDMA powder and 2,463.62 grams of ecstasy powder during the raid.
They also found 24.73 grams of ketamine, 6.40 grams of ecstasy pills, and 3.29 grams of Erimin 5 pills at the suspects’ residence.
Investigations revealed the third suspect was an active distributor while the other two were users.
The users worked as a shop assistant and a construction contractor who obtained their supply from the main suspect.
The syndicate had been operating since April using the house as a processing site for ecstasy powder.
All three suspects have prior drug-related criminal records and tested positive for methamphetamine.
They are currently under remand until October 29 to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
This section carries the death penalty or life imprisonment plus a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. – Bernama
