KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will depart for South Korea on Thursday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

“I will leave on Thursday after the Prime Minister’s Question Time in Parliament,” he told Bernama following the conclusion of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, will arrive in South Korea later that evening ahead of the APEC meeting scheduled from October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju.

This marks South Korea’s second time hosting APEC, having previously hosted the forum in 2005.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz are expected to depart for South Korea earlier today.

Anwar, who recently hosted leaders from ASEAN member states and dialogue partners including United States President Donald Trump, is expected to meet them again in Gyeongju as APEC members.

International media reports indicate some APEC leaders have already begun arriving in South Korea ahead of the meeting.

Themed “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” APEC 2025 Korea will focus on advancing regional trade, artificial intelligence and sustainability.

Ministerial sessions will cover health, the digital economy and small and medium-sized enterprises.
