Cape EMS strengthens confidence in smart infrastructure, renewable energy drive

The Sun Biz

JOHOR BAHRU — Cape EMS Bhd has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to its smart infrastructure and renewable-energy initiative in Perak, following recent speculation triggered by the sharp decline in the share price of Perak Transit Bhd.

The electronic-manufacturing-services (EMS) and engineering-solutions group explained that its partnership with Perak Transit is limited to the announced project to set up smart bus-stop systems and an electric-vehicle (EV) hub in Ipoh, which supports Malaysia’s goal of sustainable transportation and clean energy.

Cape EMS emphasised that the slump in Perak Transit’s share price does not affect its financial standing, operational capacity, or project execution capability.

The company reiterated that it holds no direct or indirect equity in Perak Transit, nor has it engaged in any share dealings with the transport terminal operator.

Under the agreement, Cape EMS’s role is clearly defined as engineering, design, assembly, installation, testing and commissioning of infrastructure and systems under its scope. The company emphasises that it remains financially and operationally independent, backed by a solid balance sheet and a sustainable cash flow position.

According to Group CEO Christina Tee Kim Chin, the partnership is strictly project-based, focused on delivering smart infrastructure and renewable energy solutions in Perak.

“It is not an investment or equity arrangement,” she stated. “The recent share-price volatility in Perak Transit does not influence Cape EMS’s operations, finances or obligations.”

Tee further explained that the Perak project dovetails with Cape EMS’s broader strategic ambition to expand into renewable energy, smart infrastructure and battery-energy-storage systems (BESS) as part of its diversification roadmap.

The timing of this reaffirmation is significant because the partnership was announced via a memorandum of agreement (MoA) outlining the scope: smart bus stops and an EV hub in Ipoh, managed by Perak Transit, where Cape EMS acts as the strategic service provider across designated project sites.

Amid the recent turbulence in Perak Transit’s share price, which saw a steep drop— Cape EMS promptly clarified the boundaries of the collaboration and reassured the market of its standalone stability.

On the policy front, Cape EMS noted that Malaysia’s macro-tailwinds are supporting its efforts.

Under Budget 2026, the government has outlined a suite of incentives for green technology deployment, including the continuation of the Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS 5.0) (RM1 billion), high guarantee rates for green-sector projects, and enhanced quotas under large-scale solar (LSS) and feed-in-tariff schemes.

These incentives strengthen the environment for Cape EMS’s ambitions in renewable energy and smart infrastructure.

By reaffirming its commitment, Cape EMS is executing on its strategic path, leveraging strong fundamentals and steering clear of collateral risk tied to partner-market volatility.

The group remains well-positioned to deliver long-term value to its clients, partners, and shareholders as Malaysia’s low-carbon transition accelerates.

Recently, Cape EMS’s subsidiary, Cape Renewables Sdn Bhd, has ignited new collaboration among energy leaders and technology partners to accelerate Malaysia’s clean energy transition following a successful exclusive industry sharing session that identified new opportunities in battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar technologies and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The session brought together key players from the energy and technology sectors to exchange insights, forge partnerships, and chart practical pathways to accelerate the country’s shift toward a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

The event culminated in a shared commitment among participants to deepen collaboration in renewable energy innovation, expand industrial adoption of BESS and accelerate the rollout of EV charging solutions to support Malaysia’s growing electric mobility landscape.

Tee said the engagement session underscored the importance of industry-led dialogue in driving collective action.

“The outcome of this session is clear — collaboration between technology providers, manufacturers and policymakers is essential to scale Malaysia’s clean energy ambitions,” she said, adding that Cape Renewables is committed to being a catalyst for that transformation.
