Paras Sungai Muda turun: Pulau Pinang masih boleh ekstrak air – Chow

GEORGE TOWN: Bekalan air di Pulau Pinang tidak terjejas setakat ini walaupun paras air Sungai Muda, Kedah yang melibatkan pengoperasian Loji Rawatan Air (LRA) Sungai Petani dan Pinang Tunggal menunjukkan trend penurunan.

Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Chow Kon Yeow berkata ia berikutan pam untuk mengekstrak air dipasang Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) agak dalam di hilir sungai yang membolehkan ia masih boleh mengepam untuk kegunaan pengguna di negeri itu.

“Apabila LRA itu terjejas, tidak bermakna loji kita atau extraction point kita terjejas sebab paras di mana pam itu dipasang adalah berbeza. Kita mendapati pam yang ekstrak air itu dipasang amat dalam ke sungai.

“Oleh itu, kalau paras air jatuh pun, ia masih mencukupi bagi kita (Pulau Pinang) untuk mengepam berbanding dengan kawasan-kawasan lain. Setakat ini, kita masih dapat mengesktrak air,“ katanya kepada pemberita selepas menghadiri Majlis Pelancaran dan Sambutan Edisi ke-100 iNPENANG di sini hari ini.

Bagaimanapun, Chow berkata kerajaan negeri terus memantau perkembangan paras Sungai Muda dan pihaknya sebelum ini pernah mengesyorkan kepada Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (SADA) agar mengubah paras pam air untuk dipasang lebih rendah atau dalam bagi mengelakkan masalah sedemikian.

Semalam, SADA memaklumkan paras Sungai Muda menunjukkan trend penurunan sekali gus berisiko terjadi gangguan bekalan air di daerah Kuala Muda dan penurunan tersebut disebabkan oleh faktor kemarau berterusan serta menyebabkan bekalan air mentah berkurangan.

Bagi menangani masalah itu, Lembaga Sumber Air Negeri Kedah (LSANK) dan Pejabat Lembangan Sungai Muda (PLSM) telah menambah kuantiti pelepasan sumber air dari Empangan Beris dari 10 cumec kepada 15 cumec untuk menstabilkan semula paras air Sungai Muda.
