Peniaga sayur warga emas rugi hampir RM1 juta angkara 'phone scam'

KUANTAN: Seorang peniaga sayur di Cameron Highlands kerugian RM958,088 akibat diperdaya sindiket penipuan panggilan telefon atau ‘phone scam’ yang menyamar sebagai pegawai bank di Dubai, tahun lalu.

Ketua Polis Pahang Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman berkata mangsa lelaki berusia 69 tahun itu mendakwa telah menerima panggilan melalui aplikasi Facebook daripada suspek yang menyamar sebagai pegawai bank pada 30 Mac tahun lalu.

Beliau berkata suspek didakwa telah memberi tawaran kepada mangsa untuk mengaku sebagai saudara kepada individu yang mendeposit sebanyak US$26,700,000 yang telah meninggal dunia dan mangsa dijanjikan sebanyak 50 peratus daripada tuntutan tersebut sekiranya bersetuju dengan tawaran tersebut.

“Kemudian suspek menyambungkan talian kepada seorang peguam yang menguruskan segala transaksi berhubung bayaran yang dikenakan kepada mangsa seperti cukai, levi, bayaran anti pengubahan wang haram dan sebagainya.

“Susulan itu, mangsa akhirnya telah melakukan 70 kali transaksi ke dalam 26 akaun bank berbeza mulai 9 Mei 2023 hingga 11 Mac 2024 namun tidak mendapat sebarang bayaran yang dijanjikan,” katanya dalam kenyataan hari ini.

Katanya mangsa membuat laporan polis semalam.

Beliau berkata hasil siasatan mendapati sumber kewangan mangsa adalah daripada duit simpanan sendiri.

Justeru Yahaya menasihatkan orang ramai segera membuat semakan dengan pihak polis atau agensi berkaitan apabila menerima panggilan meragukan bagi mengelak menjadi mangsa penipuan.
