PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) has issued a stern warning to Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd, urging caution and serious attention to sensitive issues involving religion and ethnicity.
The warning came after a Facebook user shared a video of a pair of high-heeled shoes from the local brand Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd, alleging that the logo on the sole resembled the word ‘Allah’.
JAKIM’s director-general Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff stated that the same warning has been given to all entrepreneurs, manufacturers, suppliers, and importers, as reported by Berita Harian.
“Vern’s has clarified the true position of the issue and apologised. The company has taken drastic action by immediately withdrawing the concerned products from over 70 Vern’s branches nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak,“ she said in a statement today.

She emphasised that JAKIM does not want the incident to recur in the future, whether by Vern’s or other parties producing similar products.
“At the same time, all parties are advised not to raise issues touching on the aspects of 3R (religion, royalty, and race) that could lead to tension and affect harmony.
“JAKIM also leaves it to the authorities to conduct investigations since the case has already been opened for investigation by the PDRM,“ she said.
