NASA confident of Thursday's space station cargo mission launch

WASHINGTON: NASA officials said they are confident the 29th SpaceX resupply mission to the International Space Station will launch on schedule on Thursday night, reported Sputnik.

“I forecast a 95 per cent go,“ Launch Weather Officer Melody Lovin said during a press conference at Kennedy Space Centre on Wednesday.

“So far, I see excellent weather and they’re ready to roll.”

NASA and SpaceX are targeting 8.28 pm EST on Thursday for take-off, the officials said.

Two valves were replaced during pre-flight preparations and a pre-launch review found no problems at all, NASA officials added.

SpaceX’s unmanned Dragon spacecraft will deliver 65,00 pounds of cargo, including new scientific investigations to study atmospheric gravity waves and test high data rate laser communications from the space station to Earth, NASA said in a press release.

The spacecraft is expected to spend about a month attached to the orbital outpost before it returns to Earth with research and return cargo, splashing down off the coast of Florida, the release said. –Bernama
