ASEAN Summit concludes smoothly with no security incidents reported

Malaysia’s Home Minister praises police and immigration for ensuring incident-free 47th ASEAN Summit with 23 heads of state attending.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits concluded without any security incidents according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He attributed this success to the high preparedness levels demonstrated by all security agencies involved in the event.

The Royal Malaysia Police and Immigration Department of Malaysia played particularly crucial roles throughout the summit period.

Saifuddin expressed his appreciation for their strong commitment and significant contributions to Malaysia’s hosting success.

He noted the remarkable achievement of hosting 23 heads of state without virtually any security disturbances.

The minister made these remarks during his winding-up speech for the Home Ministry’s budget debate in Parliament.

Security deployment included 10,492 police personnel and 3,000 immigration officers for the summit.

These forces ensured high security readiness and smooth operations at all national entry points.

The three-day summit marked several important diplomatic milestones for the region.

Timor-Leste participated as ASEAN’s 11th member state in a significant expansion move.

Malaysia and Cambodia signed the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord during the summit proceedings.

This represented Malaysia’s fifth time hosting the ASEAN Summit and its largest such event.

The gathering brought together ASEAN leaders with major international dialogue partners.

Notable attendees included United States President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva attended representing the BRICS grouping.

South Africa’s President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa also participated in the summit discussions. – Bernama
