Malaysia’s embassy in Doha advises citizens to stay home and remain alert as regional security remains unstable following recent incidents.
DOHA: The Malaysian Embassy in Doha has advised its citizens in Qatar to remain vigilant and avoid non-essential travel. This follows an assessment that the security situation in Qatar and the Gulf region remains unstable.
The notice, issued on Monday, stated that recent incidents were reported in the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed industrial areas. These incidents resulted only in minor damage.
“Therefore, all Malaysians in Qatar are advised to remain vigilant and NOT LEAVE their residences, except for essential matters only,” the embassy stated. The advisory was uploaded to the embassy’s official Facebook page.
In a separate post, the embassy announced it is conducting a data collection exercise. This aims to update records of Malaysians residing in or stranded in Qatar.
“The measure is aimed at enabling important information to be channelled more quickly and accurately should the need arise,” it said. The embassy provided a link on its Facebook page for citizens to update their information.
The regional tensions escalated on Saturday when the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran. These reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and US assets in Gulf countries.
