South Korea’s Choi Hye-Jin leads Maybank Championship by five strokes, with defending champion Yin Ruoning in joint second place
SOUTH KOREAN GOLFER CHOI HYE-JIN fired a six-under 66 to maintain a five-stroke lead after the second round of the Maybank Championship 2025.
Hye-Jin recovered from an early bogey to card seven birdies for a two-day total of 14-under 130 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
She revealed her simple approach was to avoid overthinking and just focus on hitting the ball.
Hye-Jin also noted the intense heat and shared her strategy to conserve energy for the weekend.
Defending champion Yin Ruoning of China stayed in contention with a five-under 67 for a nine-under total.
Ruoning is tied for second place with Australia’s Hannah Green, who carded a three-under 69.
The Chinese star expressed satisfaction with her performance, particularly an improved putting display.
She emphasised that patience and taking one shot at a time are crucial for the final rounds.
Ruoning aims to continue scoring five-under each day but would welcome even lower scores.
She also declared the Maybank Championship one of her favourite tour stops.
