Kuala Lumpur police will detain a controversial musician to assist in murder investigation of Taiwanese influencer found dead in hotel.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police will detain a controversial musician to assist in investigations into the death of a Taiwanese female influencer found dead at a hotel here last month.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the case has been reclassified from sudden death to murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“The musician was the last person to be with the victim and is now considered an important individual in the investigation,” he told reporters today.
He stated police do not rule out the possibility of detaining the musician soon.
All aspects of the case are being examined including the victim’s movements since her arrival in Malaysia on October 20.
“The investigation is being conducted thoroughly including recording statements from hotel staff and security personnel,” Fadil added.
Police are also reviewing closed-circuit television footage from the hotel premises.
Authorities are still awaiting the post-mortem and toxicology reports to determine the exact cause of death.
The body of the Taiwanese influencer was discovered by the musician in a hotel bathtub at approximately 1.40 pm on October 22.
The musician was later arrested for allegedly possessing and using drugs the same day.
During a raid at about 4.30 pm on October 22, police seized nine blue pills believed to be ecstasy weighing approximately 5.12 grammes.
He was subsequently charged in the Kuala Lumpur Court on October 24 for drug-related offenses. – Bernama
