Rapper granted six-day remand order as police investigate Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin’s murder
PETALING JAYA: Police have successfully obtained a six-day remand order against Malaysian rapper Wee Meng Chee, professionally known as Namewee, to facilitate investigations into the murder of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam confirmed that the remand order was secured at the district police headquarters today.
“We have obtained a remand order on the suspect from November 5 to 10,” he stated.
The order was granted to enable police to conduct comprehensive investigations into Hsieh’s death, which has been reclassified as a murder case.
In an Instagram post earlier today, Namewee revealed he had travelled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur in the early hours of the morning for a scheduled appointment with police.
The 42-year-old rapper voluntarily presented himself at the Dang Wangi Police Headquarters as part of his continued cooperation with authorities investigating the case.
The investigation centres on the death of 33-year-old Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, whose body was discovered in a hotel bathroom on Jalan Conlay on 22 October.
The case was initially classified as a sudden death report (SDR) but was subsequently upgraded to a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code after new evidence emerged suggesting potential foul play.
Namewee has previously stated that he has cooperated with authorities on seven separate occasions throughout the investigation.

He was earlier charged with drug possession and use after police discovered nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy weighing 5.12 grams in the hotel room where Hsieh’s body was found.
The rapper is currently out on bail for those drug-related charges and has maintained that he would not flee from authorities.
Police continue to await complete post-mortem and toxicology reports to establish the exact cause of Hsieh’s death.
According to earlier statements by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, Namewee was the last person seen with the victim and is considered a crucial witness in the investigation.
