The Borneo Cultures Museum in Sarawak has claimed the top spot on Museum World Ranking, surpassing Paris’ Louvre Museum with over 49,000 votes.

KUCHING: The Borneo Cultures Museum has achieved global recognition by claiming the top position on the Museum World Ranking website.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this recognition strengthens Sarawak’s position as a premier tourism destination ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

He stated the state government is committed to positioning museums as key attractions for both local and international visitors.

“This museum has become a symbol of progress and pride for the people of Sarawak,” Abang Johari told reporters after officiating a new hotel opening.

The museum’s modern design and interactive exhibitions showcase Borneo’s rich ethnic heritage.

As of 9.30 am today, the Borneo Cultures Museum had garnered 49,467 votes on the ranking website.

This placed it ahead of the renowned Louvre Museum in Paris, which secured second place with 4,059 votes.

The Sarawak government is also upgrading the Natural History Museum to attract more international visitors.

That museum features Darwin and Wallace’s evolutionary theories along with state biodiversity artefacts.

Abang Johari emphasised the heritage and cultural sector’s strong potential in drawing tourists to Sarawak.

The recognition demonstrates Sarawak’s growing prominence in the global tourism landscape. – Bernama
