Anthony Loke briefs Cabinet on proposal to equip government vehicles with safety systems post-Teluk Intan crash

PUTRAJAYA: The government has been briefed on a proposal to equip government vehicles with additional safety systems, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the matter was raised in the Cabinet last week before the final report on the Teluk Intan crash was made public.

“I presented the report through a Cabinet note and sought cooperation from the relevant ministries — particularly the Home Ministry and the Defence Ministry — to take follow-up action,” he told reporters after the Transport Ministry’s November monthly assembly here today.

Loke said while the Transport Ministry can prepare the report and recommendations, the actual implementation must be carried out by the respective ministries that manage the vehicles.

He added that the process could present challenges as it may involve retrofitting existing vehicles or purchasing new ones.

The recommendation was among the findings in the investigation report into the fatal Teluk Intan crash involving a government convoy earlier this year.
