Iran slashes personal fuel quotas in Tehran after US-Israeli missile attacks target oil storage facilities, escalating regional tensions.
TEHRAN: Iran has reduced the personal fuel purchase quota for citizens in the capital following missile strikes on oil infrastructure that it blames on the United States and Israel.
The Tehran governorship announced the measure, cutting the monthly quota for fuel bought with personal cards at stations across the province from 30 litres to 20, according to Iranian state television.
This restriction was implemented after several oil storage facilities in Tehran and Alborz provinces were targeted in attacks late Saturday night, as reported by the West Asia News Agency citing the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company.
A company statement described the strikes as an attack by “Zionist-American enemies” on Iran’s energy infrastructure, with firefighting teams currently working to contain the resulting blazes.
US and Israeli forces had previously targeted oil depots in the same provinces last Monday, according to earlier reports.
Regional hostilities have intensified dramatically since a large-scale US and Israeli attack on Iran on Feb 28, which Iranian sources say has killed more than 1,000 people including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials.
Iran has retaliated with sweeping strikes on US bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel across the region, as well as multiple Israeli cities.
