Emma Firyana wins historic women’s singles title at World Bowls

Malaysian lawn bowler Emma Firyana Saroji clinched the women’s singles gold at the 2025 World Bowls Championship in a thrilling final against England.

NATIONAL lawn bowler Emma Firyana Saroji created history by winning the women’s singles title at the 2025 World Bowls Championship.

The world number 12 engaged in a fierce battle against England’s Kathrine Rednall in the gold medal match at the National Lawn Bowls Centre.

The first set ended tied at 5-5, forcing a deciding set where Rednall briefly led 3-2.

Emma fought back to secure a dramatic 6-5 victory in the final round.

The win provided sweet revenge for the Selangor-born athlete, who had lost to the same opponent during the group stage.

“I am very happy and excited to be able to fulfil my mission to win a gold medal for the country,” Emma told reporters.

“This victory is very meaningful. This is the third time this year that I have represented the country after being dropped from the squad during COVID-19.”

The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, attended the final as royal patron of the Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation.

In the men’s singles, Izzat Shameer Dzukeple shared the bronze medal with Australia’s Corey Wedlock after finishing fourth in his group.

Jariah Zakaria added another bronze for Malaysia in the women’s singles, sharing the podium with Scotland’s Pauline Wilson. – Bernama
