Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah launched commemorative stamps and highlighted assembly’s role in state progress during the anniversary celebration

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, attended a banquet commemorating the 66th anniversary of the Selangor State Assembly.

Accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, the Ruler was welcomed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state executive council members.

Sultan Sharafuddin launched a special stamp edition featuring six designs depicting ceremonial regalia and the assembly building.

Selangor State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San described the institution as crucial to the state’s progress and policy formulation.

He emphasised its role in ensuring administration remains focused on public interests and state welfare.

Lau revealed the State Secretariat is exploring artificial intelligence for managing assembly proceedings through the Teraju AI Selangor initiative.

“The Selangor State Assembly will face increasingly complex challenges in the years ahead,” he said in his speech.

“We are confronted with high public expectations, climate change, regional geopolitical tensions, and rapid technological advancement challenges.”

Lau expressed confidence that cooperation, integrity, and strong commitment would enable the assembly to address these challenges effectively.

He urged all assembly members to set aside political differences and focus on public welfare during debates.

“Let us continue to uphold the Selangor State Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and serve as sincere voices representing the people’s trust,” he concluded. – Bernama
