Kedah welcomes federal budget 2026 with RM2.7 billion border zone

Kedah’s MB appreciates Budget 2026 for Bukit Kayu Hitam border zone, flood mitigation, and tourism success with 5.2 million visitors

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah government has expressed appreciation for the federal Budget 2026, which includes significant allocations for state development projects.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said several state priority initiatives were mentioned in the budget tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Alhamdulillah, the Federal Government’s Budget 2026 demonstrated its commitment to the development of Kedah,” he said when tabling the state’s own budget at the Kedah State Legislative Assembly.

He highlighted the Bukit Kayu Hitam Special Border Economic Zone development with an investment of RM2.7 billion.

The project is set to become a modern growth hub connecting ASEAN economic, energy and digital chains.

Other approved projects include the Sungai Karangan Riverbank Water Retention Pond and Taman Selasih Eco-friendly Drainage Project in Kulim.

Kuala Kedah Waterfront Development and coastal erosion works at Pantai Leman in Kota Setar also received funding.

The Sungai Temin and Sungai Bata Flood Mitigation Plans in Kubang Pasu were additionally approved.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Sanusi reported that the Visit Kedah 2025 campaign has attracted 5.2 million tourists as of October.

“Kedah Tourism has attained various achievements,” he added.

The state’s participation in World Expo Osaka 2025 successfully promoted Kedah’s culture, heritage and tourism.

The Kedah Pavilion attracted 162,000 visitors during the international exposition. – Bernama
