Malaysia’s services sector revenue grows 6.3% to RM657.7 billion in Q3 2025

Malaysia’s services sector revenue reached RM657.7 billion in Q3 2025, growing 6.3% year-on-year, with employment rising to 4.6 million workers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s services sector revenue grew 6.3% year-on-year to RM657.7 billion in the third quarter of 2025.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported sustained business expansion and positive performance across all service segments drove this growth.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said wholesale and retail trade, accommodation, and food and beverage segments collectively grew 5.8% year-on-year.

This segment generated RM496.8 billion in revenue, outperforming the first and second quarters of 2025.

“Rising domestic travel, robust consumer spending supported by the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah initiative, and higher international arrivals underpinned growth,” he said.

Information and communication alongside transportation and storage segments recorded 6.4% year-on-year growth.

These segments contributed RM91.0 billion to the sector’s total revenue in the third quarter.

Professional, real estate, and administrative and support services showed the strongest growth at 8.8% year-on-year.

Quarter-on-quarter, overall services sector revenue increased 2.5% compared to the second quarter of 2025.

The wholesale and retail trade, food and beverages, and accommodation segments collectively drove this quarterly growth with a 2.7% increase.

Employment in the services sector reached 4.6 million workers, marking a 2.4% year-on-year increase.

Total salaries and wages rose 4.7% year-on-year to RM34.5 billion in the third quarter of 2025. – Bernama
