Melaka offers idle government land for agricultural activities

Melaka invites applications to cultivate pineapple and other crops on idle government land through the Temporary Occupation Licence Scheme

MELAKA: The state government is offering opportunities for individuals to utilise idle government land for agricultural activities.

State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said interested parties can apply through the Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) Scheme.

The initiative aims to empower the people’s economy and increase Melaka’s agricultural output with low rental rates for three years.

“Residents who know of unused state land can provide this information to the Department of Agriculture or the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board,” he said.

“The state government will assist in the TOL application process so idle land can be utilised productively.”

Akmal spoke to reporters after officiating the Melaka Pineapple Technology Transfer and Crop Management Programme in Bukit Katil.

He noted pineapple cultivation in Melaka has surged 143% over the past five years.

“This growth proves the state government’s seriousness in developing the pineapple industry as a viable sector,” he said.

Melaka is among the first states to practice the ‘Plant Once, Harvest Thrice’ concept at the Jasin Correctional Centre.

The current pineapple planting area in Melaka comprises 125.70 hectares.

Meanwhile, LPNM received RM300,000 under the Food Security Strengthening Programme 2025.

The allocation supports the Optimising Land Use initiative in collaboration with the state government. – Bernama

Both players finished tied on 15-under-par 201 after three rounds at Seta Golf Course, with officials cancelling Sunday’s final round due to unplayable conditions. The playoff, held on a shortened par-three 18th, saw Hataoka make par to Araki’s bogey for her first LPGA win since the 2022 LA Open. “It was a unique win for me,” said Hataoka. “It’s unfortunate the tournament got shortened, but winning in front of Japanese fans means so much.”
