Malaysia showcases climate leadership at COP30 with net-zero commitment

Malaysia Pavilion at COP30 highlights nation’s 2050 net-zero pathway through ecosystem protection, climate adaptation and green financing initiatives.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has launched its Pavilion at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, reinforcing its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The Pavilion, themed ‘Climate Action Now: Net Zero Pathways Unlocked’, demonstrates Malaysia’s comprehensive national approach to climate action.

It is led by the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry in partnership with the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation.

National partners Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Maybank are providing support for the initiative.

The Pavilion brings together key stakeholders including government agencies, industry leaders and international organisations like the World Bank.

“Bringing together voices across government, industry and civil society, the nation is advancing towards net-zero through strong governance and private sector commitment,” the ministry stated.

A series of high-level dialogues, panel discussions and collaborative sessions will be hosted throughout the conference.

Key thematic areas include ecosystem protection, climate adaptation, green financing and the blue economy.

COP30 is running from November 10 to November 21 in Belém, Brazil.

NRES deputy secretary-general Datuk Nor Yahati Awang said Malaysia’s participation reflects its strong commitment to global climate efforts.

“We aim to drive tangible and transformative change that will realise our aspiration of achieving carbon neutrality and securing a sustainable future for all,” she said. – Bernama
