Abdul Rahman Dahlan withdraws from Tempasuk state seat race

Sabah UMNO deputy chief Abdul Rahman Dahlan withdraws as BN candidate for Tempasuk, making way for local Kota Belud leadership in state polls.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO deputy chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has withdrawn as Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Tempasuk seat in the upcoming state election.

He informed BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of his decision to make way for a new local face from Kota Belud.

“I have contested three times in the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency, winning twice and losing once,” Abdul Rahman said in a statement.

“UMNO consistently won the votes in the Tempasuk state constituency even when we lost the parliamentary seat.”

He expressed confidence that local Kota Belud UMNO leaders would shoulder this responsibility excellently.

The former Minister of Housing and Local Government pledged to continue supporting UMNO in other capacities.

Abdul Rahman thanked Ahmad Zahid and the party for nominating him to contest in Tempasuk.

He also expressed gratitude to UMNO members and supporters in the Tempasuk constituency for their support over the years.

The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the Sabah state election.

Nomination day falls on November 15 with early voting scheduled for November 25.

In the previous state election, BN’s Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari won the Tempasuk seat with a 1,685-vote majority.

Mohd Arsad has been named as Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s candidate for the same seat in the upcoming election. – Bernama
