Malaysia collected RM26.47 billion in import and excise duties on vehicles and spare parts from 2022-2024, with RM9.83 billion from road tax.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia collected RM26.47 billion in import and excise duties on motor vehicles and spare parts between 2022 and 2024.
The Ministry of Finance revealed that RM25.15 billion came from duties on motor vehicles while RM1.32 billion was collected from motor vehicle spare parts.
These indirect tax revenues are collected by the Customs Department under the Customs Act 1967 and Excise Act 1976.
The revenue is channelled into the Consolidated Fund to finance government development programmes, projects, and operating expenditures.
The ministry provided this information in a written parliamentary reply to Salamiah Mohd Nor regarding duty collections from 2022 to 2024.
Based on Road Transport Department data, motor vehicle licence fees totalled RM9.83 billion during the same period. – Bernama
