ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government has tabled a RM2.546 billion state budget for 2026, projecting a RM4.45 million surplus.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the budget at the Johor State Legislative Assembly, highlighting its focus on public welfare and fiscal strength.
The 2026 budget represents a significant increase from the RM1.999 billion allocated last year.
Projected revenue for 2026 is expected to reach RM2.55 billion, positioning Johor among Malaysia’s financially strongest states.
“This means that the Johor Budget 2026 is a surplus budget which amounts to RM4.45 million,” Onn Hafiz said.
He attributed the surplus to disciplined fiscal management and effective economic strategies.
Johor’s economic performance remains encouraging with state revenue supported by multiple sources.
Increased collections came from zakat, local authorities, the Johor Housing Development Corporation, and state government-linked companies.
The budget, themed “A Prosperous Johor People”, aligns with six key pillars comprising 260 initiatives.
These initiatives cover social development, economic growth, and public well-being.
Over three and a half years, Johor attracted RM218 billion in investments while creating over 64,000 jobs.
The state maintains a low unemployment rate of 2.3 per cent.
Johor recorded Malaysia’s highest GDP growth at 6.4 per cent alongside RM27.2 billion in agricultural sector sales.
“This rise in revenue not only reflects Johor’s economic strength but also proves that every policy and initiative implemented has produced tangible benefits for the people,” he added.
