Tengku Zafrul to end tenure as MITI minister on December 2

Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz will step down as MITI minister on Dec 2, coinciding with the end of his six-year term as senator.

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will conclude his ministerial duties on December 2, 2025.

His final day at the ministry coincides with the completion of his service in the Dewan Negara.

“My last day in the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry is Dec 2,” he told a press conference on MITI’s third quarter report card.

“Legally, because I’m no longer in the Dewan Negara—and you need to be in either Dewan to serve as a minister—I definitely cannot continue to serve as a minister.”

Tengku Zafrul expressed willingness to assist his successor during the transition period.

When questioned about potentially remaining in an advisory role, he confirmed no discussions have taken place yet.

“There is no discussion yet,” he said.

“But if there is a need, I have already discussed this with the Prime Minister and stated my intention to continue to assist.”

He added that they are currently awaiting the Prime Minister’s decision regarding his future role.

Tengku Zafrul has served as senator for two terms since 2020.
