Perlis customs seize RM533,000 worth of cannabis in two operations

Perlis customs confiscated 91.5kg of cannabis valued at RM533,000 in two separate operations conducted in Kuala Perlis waters in October

KANGAR: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department in Perlis seized 91.5 kilogrammes of cannabis worth approximately RM533,000 in Kuala Perlis during October.

Perlis Customs director Ismail Hashim said 41.5kg of cannabis flowers valued at RM378,000 were confiscated during an inspection in the Pulau Ketam mangrove area at 1.30am on October 24.

“The results of the inspection found two white sacks and one plastic package left on a tree in suspicious condition,” he told a press conference at the State Customs Complex.

A thorough examination revealed 39 compressed pieces and 12 airtight transparent plastic packages containing dried plants suspected to be cannabis flowers.

Ismail said his team also seized 50kg of cannabis worth RM155,000 during a raid on a private jetty at the Kuala Perlis estuary at 8pm on October 28.

“The results of the raid found three sack packages left on the jetty platform,” he stated.

Close inspection of the sacks uncovered 50 compressed pieces of suspected drugs.

He explained that cannabis flowers commanded higher value than the compressed cannabis seized.

Cannabis remains listed under Part 1, First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama
